Yoga is now becoming extremely popular in western society due to its many benefits. Whilst there are many different aspects to yoga, most people are drawn and start with the physical postures called asana.

Yoga has been developed to:

  • Improve the flexibility and mobility of the spine and joints -
stretching and working the muscles in the body
  • Increase blood circulation -
helping essential oxygen and nutrients move easily around your body
  • Enhance your immune system -
helping fight off colds, flu, and other infections
  • Aid in the detoxification process -
helping eliminate toxins from the body
  • Improve posture -
reducing general aches and pains especially in the back
  • Regulate breathing -
helping increase energy, stamina, boosting your general well being,
improving clarity of mind and focus
  • Produce calm and de-stress
  • Produce deep whole body relaxation

Don't worry about being supple, this is not what yoga is about. Yoga teaches you to listen and to respect your body and to work within your own limits. Many people take up yoga in the first place as a result of injury or immobility since yoga inflicts a very low level of impact upon the body, whilst giving the body a complete overall stretch and tone.
