Aladdin
Wednesday 7th December - Saturday 31 December 2011
We are delighted to announce that Paul Holman Associates
are returning this Christmas with the magical pantomime
Aladdin. Flying carpets, a treasure filled cave and of course,
a genie in a lamp, all makes Aladdin a truly spectacular
production.
The star-studded cast will include Bernie Clifton (and
his Ostrich) as Wishee Washee, Marshall Lancaster from 'Life
on Mars' and 'Ashes to Ashes' as Abanazar and 'Any Dream
Will Do' contestant Rob McVeigh in the title role.
This year, we’re thrilled that world renowned magician
Paul Daniels will be designing the magic needed to make
Aladdin’s carpet fly! Although Paul doesn’t
appear in the show, he will be in Newark to oversee the
flying during rehearsals.
A host of other colourful characters will be joining in
all the fun of the festive period with Widow Twankey transporting
audiences from the gloom of winter to the soap-sud-silliness
of her chaotic laundrette. Wishee Washee will be raising
the roof with laugh out loud comedy capers and the Slave
of the Ring will be adding even more magic to this spell-binding
production.
Tickets: Seats from £13; family tickets available.

Bring the whole family to enjoy Christmas music at these
ever-popular, child-friendly concerts. The choir and band
lead the audience in well-loved Christmas carols, while
the choir provides more peaceful interludes with celestial
carol settings, and the Thoresby Colliery Band adds sparkle
in its solo items.
Celebrating
Christmas with Cantamus
Fri 23rd December 2011
This concert will conclude a busy year for the main choir
girls. At three concerts in Ireland they received standing
ovations, and events in various parts of Britain included
a highly successful London promotion, The Lotus and the
Rose, which combined the cultures of East and West with
Sri Lankan and Indian soloists. Cantamus's delightful variety
of Christmas music is presented with some items featuring
choreographed movements.
Cantamus Girls Choir and Training Choir (Directors: Pamela
Cook and Ann Irons) with Philip Robinson (accompanist) and
Alistair Parnell (saxophone).
New
Year's Eve Classical Gala
Sat 31st December 2011
Join sinfonia ViVA as conductor Timothy Redmond returns
with Kenneth Alan Taylor as narrator for a very special
New Year's Eve Classical Gala programme from that simpler
time of childhood stories and legends.
Fairy tales abound as the programme includes Humperdinck's
passionate Overture to Hansel and Gretel, Prokofiev's brilliant
children's symphony Peter and the Wolf and the gentle lulling
of Coates' Three Bears Waltz. Lovers of Tchaikovsky can
savour the beautiful Trepak and the elegant Dance of the
Mirlitons from the Nutcracker Suite plus the bright lyricism
of the Waltz from Sleeping Beauty and the stirring energy
of the Polonaise from Eugene Onegin. Add the fabulously
catchy selection for orchestra from Bernstein's West Side
Story, a terrific medley of tunes from Porter's Kiss Me
Kate and three traditional Strauss foot-tappers in the dreamy
One Thousand and One Nights, Carmen Quadrille and Fledermaus
Overture and you have the perfect recipe for a New Year's
Eve to remember!
